Denise L. Rundhaugen, 55, of Westby, died Thursday October 12, 2017 at UW Hospital in Madison.  She was born November 30, 1961 to Ray and Nancy (Laas) Michalski in Hammond, Indiana.  She graduated from high school in 1980 and then graduated from Western Tech College with a degree in nursing.  She worked at St. Francis (Mayo) Hospital in La Crosse for over 15 years. She obtained her bachelor's in Accounting in 2005 and worked at a few local businesses in her spare time.Her life was dedicated to helping others. She did foster care for many years in Lacrosse. She helped raise some of her nieces and nephews.She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, daughter, niece, and caretaker.She enjoyed NASCAR, going to NASCAR races, traveling, playing pool, and spending time with her family.


Survivors include her father, Ray, a son Greg Maines of La Crosse, a daughter Danielle Hansen (Michael Bockorny) of Westby, grandchildren, Dakota, Dominick, McKendra, Gracelyn, Michael Jr., Tyana and Teryn, her fiancé, David Bakkestuen and David’s mother Caroline Bakkestuen, a half-sister Lisa Genardo, 2 half-brothers Raymond & Michael Michalski, aunts Lila Wilkes and Gail (Mike) Allen, an uncle Joe (Rosetta) Laas and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother Nancy, a son Terry Hansen, a brother Lonnie Michalski, her ex-husband Richard Hansen, husband Larry Rundhaugen, an aunt Janis (Ray) Allen and a nephew Jake Gassen.

A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday October 19, 2017 at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley with a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m.  Rev. Ted Dewald will officiate.  Burial will be in the Westby Coon Prairie Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.  Online condolences may be offered at

I am so sadden to hear about this, to her family and especially her children & grandchildren I am so sorry for your loss. Words can't begin to express how special Denise was and you kids (the boys and Dani) we're everything to her. She was far too young and will be greatly missed. Your mother was a special person
