Nancy Jane Johnson, 92, of Chaseburg, passed away Tuesday February 13, 2024 surrounded by family and loved ones. Nancy was a 1932 New Year’s baby.

Nancy grew up in the countryside surrounding Westby and Cashton.  She graduated from Westby High School in 1950.  She was very active in school programs to include:  Pep, Glee and Library Club, Freshman and Mixed Chorus, Annual and News Staff, Prom Committee, and Secretary Treasurer of her Junior Class.  She was also the Queen of her Junior Prom. It was in high school that she would meet her future husband, David Johnson, of Chaseburg.  After high school she moved to La Crosse and worked at Benson Optical.  She would marry David in Westby on September 20, 1952.  Immediately following the wedding, she and David traveled to Alexandria, LA, where David was stationed in the US Air Force.   Upon David’s discharge from the service, they returned to Chaseburg to raise a family.

Nancy was a homemaker raising five children.  Outside the home, she was very active in the Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School and being a long-time member of the Rachel Circle.  She also worked at Sears in La Crosse during the holiday season and was a part-time employee at the Chaseburg Post Office.  In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, sewing and bowling.

She is survived by her four sons, Bryce (Cherlyn) Johnson of McCormick SC, Barry Johnson of Onalaska, Jay Johnson of Houston MN, and Brett Johnson (Angie Greene) of La Crosse, one daughter, Roxan (Curt Vaughan) Johnson of Cave Creek, AZ and a special friend, June Lee, of Onalaska.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Angela Vaughan, Tricia (Guillaume) Vaughan Gilles, Caleb (Lindsay) Johnson, Caitlyn Johnson, Kelsey (Ira) Vaughan-Wiltsee, Devon Vaughan, Darren Johnson and Elli Johnson; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Stanley Meyer of La Crosse, Howard Meyer of Sun Prairie, David Meyer of Zephyr Hills, FL, Alan Meyer of Sun Prairie and one sister Annette Olson of Mauston.

She was preceded in death by her husband David Johnson, her parents Selmer and Lilah Meyer and a brother, LeMont Myer and a daughter-in-law, Holli Johnson.

We thank God for the gift of her life and the blessing of the time we spent with her.  She will be sadly missed.
