Alice L. Korthals

Alice L. Korthals, 85 of La Crosse, was born on March 17, 1931 to Charles and Luella Schauble. She was born to eternal life on July 16, 2016 at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse, where she had resided for the past two weeks. Alice grew up on a farm outside of Caledonia, MN and graduated from Caledonia High School in 1949. On August 19th of that year she married John F. Korthals, Jr. Together they farmed near Chaseburg, WI, where they were members of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Town of Hamburg. In 1990 they retired from farming and moved to La Crosse, where Alice and John were active members of Grace Lutheran Church.

Their marriage was blessed with six children: James (Jean), Mequon, WI; Linda (Doug) Burrows, Eau Claire, WI; Susan (Greg) Paul, La Crosse, WI; Gary (Carla), Sparta, WI; Gordon (Becky), Oshkosh, WI; and Eric (Caryn), Baraboo, WI. Additional blessings included 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Alice was preceded in death by John, her husband of 66 years, on August 21, 2015. She was also preceded by her parents and by two sisters, nine brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and a great-granddaughter. In addition to her immediate family she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Charlotte Burmester of Caledonia, MN and by three sisters-in-law: Mrs. Norma Ring Roerig of Combined Locks, WI; Mrs. Rene Brusen of Fort Atkinson, WI; and Mrs. Ruth Malchow of Waukesha, WI; as well as by many nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in La Crosse on Tuesday, July 19, from 4 - 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Jonathan Rimmert at Grace Lutheran Church on Wednesday, July 20 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Hamburg Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Chaseburg. The Seland Funeral Home of Coon Valley is assisting the family.
