Alida I. Schlicht

Alida Schlicht, 102, of La Crosse and formerly of Chaseburg died Monday, March 30, 2015 at Bethany Riverside. Alida was born January 7, 1913 in the town of Coon to Carl and Inga (Nelson) Hovde. She attended Westby High School and La Crosse Teachers College before teaching elementary grades in the Westby, Genoa, and Chaseburg areas. She was united in marriage to Arnold Schlicht October 28, 1944 at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in the Chaseburg area until 1980. Alida was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Church, Chaseburg, where she taught Saturday school for more than thirty years. Since 1983 the couple has lived in the La Crosse area.

During her lifetime Alida was an excellent seamstress, sewing beautiful special occasion gowns for her daughter, granddaughters, and niece. She was also a prolific photographer, chronicling the love for her family through pictures. Many cherished memories will remain within these albums.

Alida is survived by a beloved family including a daughter and son-in-law, Laura Lee (Roger) Barnes, two granddaughters, Carrie (Marc) Arrouet of Milwaukee, Christen Barnes of La Crosse, a dear great- grandson, Zachary Barnes, a niece Marles (Gary) Overgard of La Crosse and family, special friends Ainsley and Larry Lichte, Hovde cousins, and many others who visited her at the nursing home since Arnie died.

Alida was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Arnold in 2013; her parents, sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Lester Bjorge, Eleanor and Karl Peterson, Evelyn Hovde, a brother Lawrence Hovde, who died at age 7 years; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Loretta and Conrad Fehrer.

Alida and family wish to acknowledge the expressions of warmth and comfort of God's love through the work of the caring staff on the 200 wing of the Lighthouse at Bethany Riverside. God bless you all and many thanks. You truly are "a miracle on 7th street".

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chaseburg. Rev. Steven Oldre will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 1 p.m. until service time. The Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Peter's or Luther High School, Onalaska.
