Archie M. Brye

Archie M. Brye, 73, of rural Westby, died Tuesday October 6, 2009 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. He was born March 5, 1936 to Arthur and Judith (Vatland) Brye in La Crosse. Archie was baptized and confirmed at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. He graduated from Westby High School in 1954 and served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1959. Archie farmed his entire life in Timber Coulee with his cousins Jimmy and Merwin Bjornstad.

Archie was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, Cincinnati Reds and the Chaseburg Coon Valley Blues. In later years he enjoyed taking friends on his pontoon boat on the Mississippi River. Archie was a member of the Coon Valley Baseball Association and the Coon Valley Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his cousin Merwin Bjornstad; several other cousins and many friends including a special friend Greg "Eggit" (Lisa) Peterson as well as his dog "Doggie".

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Joyce in infancy and his cousin Jimmy Bjornstad.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday October 10, 2009 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Mitzi Miyamoto will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Coon Valley American Legion Post #116. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to the Coon Valley Lutheran Church.
