Arlan M. Dwyer, 81, of rural Coon Valley died Thursday evening December 29, 2011 at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. He was born December 28, 1930 in the Town of Greenfield, La Crosse County to Michael and Caroline (Wuensch) Dwyer. Arlan married Virginia Klos on May 2, 1950 at St. Joseph's Ridge Catholic Church. The couple farmed their married life at rural Coon Valley. They enjoyed playing cards, dancing and vacationing up north together. Virginia died May 18, 1990. Arlan enjoyed baseball, spending time at the Coon Valley ballpark, watching his grandchildren's sporting events and having coffee and visiting with friends.
Survivors include his 15 children Stan (Sue) of West Salem, Maxine Dwyer of Oregon, Wis., Darlene (Charlie) Hundt of Bangor, Cindy (Bob) Janeiro of La Crosse, Roxanne Dwyer of Coon Valley, Darrel (Laura) of Onalaska, Marilyn (Randy) Jones of La Crosse, Wayne (Bev) of Chaseburg, Keith of Westby, Sue (Greg) Tolvstad and Brent (Diane) both of La Crosse, Dan (Sue) of Coon Valley, Lisa of La Crosse, Rhonda (Brian) Buckmaster of Coon Valley and Tim (Michele) of Westby; 22 grandchildren Greg and Carisa Hundt, Jason (Lorin) Rienze, Chad (Emily), Jenny and Ben (Mandi) Dwyer, Nick (Julia) and Casi Jones, Joe and Zach Dwyer, Amber (Eric) Dwyer-Groves, Andy (Emily), Mike and Jackie Tolvstad, Emily Dwyer, Samantha Schuster, Taylor and Adam Buckmaster, Jordyn, Ashley, Bekah and Jake Dwyer; 12 great grandchildren; one brother Lester Dwyer of La Crosse; 3 sisters Dolores Gerke and Caroline (Leonard) Martin both of La Crosse and Mary (Jim) Michel of Onalaska and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, Virginia, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers John and Donald; 4 sisters Arlene Bahr, Irma Steenberg, Lil Schilling and Elvira Herold.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday January 2, 2012 at St. Joseph's Ridge Catholic Church. Rev. Joseph Nakwah and Msgr. Robert Hundt will concelebrate with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, rural Coon Valley. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Joseph's Ridge Catholic Church with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. and also at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
