Arthur D. Theige

March 11, 1927 — November 18, 2014

The South Ridge baseball team welcomed their catcher Art Theige, 87, of rural Westby, when he arrived safe at home on November 18, 2014. Arthur D. Theige was born on March 11, 1927 in Boscobel to Oscar and Minnie (Mathison) Theige. He graduated from Westby High School in 1945 and later from UW-Madison. He married Rena Williams on February 25, 1950 in Iowa. Art was a proactive conservationist and farmed his entire life on South Ridge, rural Westby. He was active in the community and was a long time member of the Vang Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, Packers football and family gatherings.

Survivors include his wife, Rena; 3 sons Bruce and Monte of Boyd and Barry of Westby, 3 daughters, Cathy Theige of La Crosse, Lynne (Marty) Stenslien of Westby, Nancy Forde of Augusta, grandchildren Ryan (Michele), Rory (Morgan) Stenslien, Shanna (Matt) Hurd, Emily (Jason) Held, Ellen, Eric and Aaron Forde; great grandchildren Connor and Carver Stenslien, Molly, Rhett and Reagan Stenslien, Jake Hurd, and Harrison Held; aunt Doris (Rueben) Johnson, 3 sisters-in-laws Doris and Darlene Williams and Kay Meyers; a brother-in-law Ralph Williams, special family friends Steve, Joanne and Phillip Humfeld and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Jean Marck and 4 brothers-in-law, Harland and Wes Williams, Bob Marck and Bob Meyers, a sister-in-law Pat Williams, and 2 nieces Molly Williams and Rose Marck.

A visitation will be held Saturday November 22, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley. A private funeral service will be held at the Vang Lutheran Church. Rev. Dan and Julie Wollman will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Vang Lutheran Church or the charity of choice
