Carol J. Gobel

Carol J. Gobel, 77, of Westby, died Saturday March 1, 2014 surrounded by her children following a brief stay at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in LaCrosse. She was born May 16, 1936 to Leif and Mabel (Jensen) Helgeson in Westby. Carol married Robert Gobel on May 28, 1955 in Stoddard. Carol worked at various places through the years including Ross Furniture and then at Gundersen Lutheran in Housekeeping until retiring in 1996. She was a 50 year member of the Stoddard American Legion Auxiliary where she was a past president. Carol enjoyed baking and spending time with her family.

Survivors include 3 children, Kevin (Jennifer) Gobel of Stoddard, Cynthia (John) Leirmo of Ferryville and Debbie (LaVon) Oliver of Westby; 5 grandchildren, Mike (Liz), Jason, and Andrew (Tiffany) Leirmo all of Ferryville, and Holly and Jamie Oliver of Westby, 4 great grandchildren, Jens and Danika Leirmo, Pasen Parr and Justin Leirmo; 2 sisters, Juna Manske of Stoddard and Dorothy (Roger) Hannum of Mankato, Minnesota and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert in 1990, 2 brothers Lester in 2013 and Harley in 1935.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday March 6, 2014 at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley. Rev. Dave Liggett will officiate with burial in the Stoddard Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time all at the funeral home.
