Claude M. Sebion

Claude M. Sebion, 92, of rural Viroqua, died Thursday July 3, 2014 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. He was born May 12, 1922 in Coon Township to Cornelius and Mary (Roiland) Sebion. He was a World War II veteran serving in the US Army from 1942-1946 in the Pacific Theatre. Claude married Marsene Jacobson on June 26, 1946 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. The couple farmed their married life in Harmony Township, rural Viroqua. Claude also worked for several years at La Crosse Rubber Mills and he also managed the Viroqua Whey Plant. Claude was served on the Vernon County Board, the Harmony Township Board, and the Bethel Home Board of Directors. He was a life member of the Chaseburg American Legion Post #202, where he served as commander and the Coon Creek VFW #10532. He was a member of the Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and also a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. He also was a member of the LaBelle Masonic Lodge in Viroqua and the Vernon County Shriners as well as an active member of the Chaseburg Farmer's Union.

Claude loved to travel and spend time with his family, go on road trips and play cards. He will be remembered for his easy going personality, great sense of humor and his ability to strike up a conversation with just about anyone.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Marsene; 4 children, Richard Sebion of Lake of the Hills, Illinois, Janet (Scott) Stafslien of Viroqua, Bob (Bette) Sebion of Holmen and David (Nachelle) Sebion of Lake of the Hills, Illinois; 13 grandchildren, Christie Boortz (Jim Crocker), Doug Sebion, Erika (Bill) Luthy, Angela (Brent) Byrd, Lanie Sebion, Leia Sebion, Tracy (Jerry) Cade, Jason (Carrie) Stafslien, Danielle (Jason) Schmidt, Rob (Carly) Sebion, Megan Bloedow, Kyle (Lindsay) and Marsene Sebion; 14 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Donna Sebion and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Mary Ellen Boortz; 4 brothers, Milton, Clifford, Irvin and Sidney and 3 sisters, Alice Frohock, Thelma Urness and Edith Kallman.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church, rural Chaseburg, with Rev. Adolf Quast officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the Chaseburg American Legion Post #202 and the Coon Creek VFW #10532. Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley with a Masonic Service at 3:45 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time.
