Darel A. Skolos
Darel Alexander Skolos, known to some as "Bobo," died at Gunderson Health System on June 1, 2013, as the result of a vehicle accident. He passed into the open arms of Jesus very peacefully. Darel was born in LaCrosse, WI on September 2, 1937. For the last couple decades he went to Arizona in the winter to spend time with his family there, and at one time he lived in Arizona. But, LaCrosse and vicinity was his home. He really loved this area. He was proud of the fact that he drove truck for 50 years, and loved every minute of it. He received several safety awards, and his big tanker was always spotlessly maintained. Darel had amazing patience and understanding when mentoring other truck drivers.
Darel did not worry or complain. He always had a smile on his face. He had an easy going personality and was liked by everyone who knew him.
Darel loved to drive. After driving truck all week, sometimes he would get in his pickup and drive again. He would drive hundreds of miles, get a cup of coffee, and return home. He liked being on the road. He enjoyed the scenery, the beauty of God's creation. His 1995 Ford pickup was his pride and joy. It was like no other pickup that age. He won several trophies at car shows with the '95. He, with his friends' help, also restored a 1948 Ford pickup. What a good time he had with that truck too. Darel had many, many good friends. His friends were important to him, and he to them. Darel was always a loyal friend, and his kindness was outstanding. He was a very generous man and truly would give anyone the shirt off his back. His friends and family appreciated him for all these outstanding qualities.
Darel was the loving father of Karen Skolos; Kate (Tom) Berry; Cathy (Stuart) Greer; and Steve (Teri) Skolos. He is also survived by eight grandchildren Miranda, Stephanie, Heather, Matthew, Michael, Steven, Kelly, and Sarah. He will also be greatly missed by his loving sister and husband, Dana (Skolos) and Donald Fladhammer and several nieces and nephews. His family was in California and Arizona, but his home was Wisconsin. Darel was preceded in death by his parents, Thore and Violet Skolos; his son Daniel Skolos; his grandson Christopher Skolos; and his nephew Jon Fladhammer.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday June 8, 2013 at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley. Rev. Pete Beckstrand will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time.Visits: 6
