David Peter Shepardson, 82, of Danville, Illinois, and formerly Coon Valley and Westby, Wisconsin, passed peacefully with family at his side. David was born to Kenneth and Dolores Shepardson (nee Bruland) on December 16, 1941. Along with two brothers, Ronald and Milo, from Kenneth’s first marriage, David was the first of three children born to Kenneth and Delores. David married Marilyn Morgan on August 13, 1965, at Asbury Methodist Church in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He graduated 1974 from the University of Minnesota School of Pharmacy and was a Beta Sigma Chi fraternity member. Following graduation, he began his long career as a pharmacist at Degen-Berglund Pharmacies in La Crosse, Wisconsin, calling Coon Valley home. David was a long-time volunteer with the Coon Valley Fire Department and was instrumental in starting the Coon Valley Ambulance Service. David was both a member and eventual president of the Coon Valley Village Board and a contributing columnist for the Westby Times. David was lovingly called Bumpa by his grandkids, Shep by his friends, and Old Crooked Finger by his children. He was also an avid hunter and gun collector, loved a good story or joke, and was happiest reading a good book.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Delores, brothers Ronald Shepardson, Milo Shepardson, Dana Shepardson, and Dale Shepardson, grandchildren Kody Shepardson and Steven Kabelowsky Jr., and son-in-law Steven Kabelowsky. David leaves a legacy through his wife Marilyn of 59 years, and children Brian (Chris) Shepardson, La Crosse, Wisconsin; Mark (Stacie) Shepardson, Viroqua, Wisconsin; Stephanie (Nathan) Parks of Appleton, Wisconsin; Brent (Ann) Shepardson, Rochester, Minnesota; and Courtney (Shane) Messer of Danville Illinois. He is also survived by many loved and cherished grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and one great-grandchild.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday September 28th from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley, Wisconsin, which will include a time of sharing from 4:30-5:00 p.m. followed by a luncheon.
The family would like to thank the Accolade Nursing Home staff and OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, Danville, Illinois, for the excellent care provided to David. The family would also like to thank both Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Danville, Illinois, and Seland Funeral Home of Coon Valley, Wisconsin, for assisting with the arrangements.
