Doris Irene Sorenson

Doris Irene Sorenson, 87, of Coon Valley, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Gundersen Healthcare in La Crosse with her children by her side.

She was born on July 14, 1926 in Vernon County to John and Amanda (Gabrielson) Ostrem. She was baptized and confirmed in Norwegian at the Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Viroqua. Doris was a longtime member of St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. In 1947 she married Raymond Sorenson (later divorced) and they farmed together in rural Chaseburg until 1988.

Doris was a cook at the Clausen School and the Ten Mile House. She worked in Viroqua at the Tobacco Warehouse, Dee's Dinner in Stoddard and was a housekeeper at Bethany St. Joseph in La Crosse. She was a 4-H leader for the Clausen Clippers. Doris loved to dance and was a former member of the Concordia Ballroom Society. She was a talented seamstress and wonderful cook and baker of Norwegian goodies.

Doris will be sadly missed by all who knew her and remembered for her kindness and love to care for her family and others.

She is survived by her children, Rodney of Savannah, GA, Daniel of Lake City, MN, Ann (Mike) Dee of La Grange, IL, and Andrew of Chaseburg, WI. 3 grandchildren, Stephanie (Brandon) Tuss, Ross Sorenson, and Cody Sorenson, 2 great grandchildren, Bailey Tuss and Emma Tuss. 3 sisters, Arlene Severson, Francis Bekkedal and Rachel (Emil) Cornell, two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ostrem and Myrna Ostrem and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Herbert Ostrem and John Ostrem, one sister, Jergenna Schlicht, and three brothers-in-law Edmund Schlicht, Bud Bekkedal and Sylvan Severson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday May 23, 2014 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. Rev. Steven Oldre will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Friday from noon until service time.
