Edith J. Asp, 88, of rural Stoddard, died peacefully at home Sunday July 11, 2010 surrounded by her children. She was born April 19, 1922 in La Crosse to Joseph and Ann (North) Davis. Edith graduated from Central High School in 1940 and then worked at the Credit Bureau in La Crosse for several years. On August 10, 1946 she married Arnold A. Asp at Christ Episcopal Church in La Crosse. After her husband retired from the U.S. Army in 1970, the couple farmed at rural Stoddard. Edith was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid and a former member of the Oak Ridge Homemakers. She enjoyed baking, cooking and spending time with her family.
Survivors include 2 daughters Elizabeth (Gary) Melbye of rural Stoddard and Judith (Dennis) Odegaard of Onalaska; 1 son Arnold (Donna) Asp of rural Genoa; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Marion Fuchs and Joan Davis both of La Crosse and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Arnold in 2003; 2 daughters Jennifer Williams in 2003 and Ardith in infancy; 3 sisters Elizabeth Soller, Edna Jenks and Mildred Grosch; 1 brother George Davis and a son-in-law Larry Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday July 15, 2010 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. Rev. Steven Oldre will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time. The Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley is assisting the family. Online condolences at selandsfuneralhome.com.
