Elizabeth D. Jothen, 90, of Coon Valley died Monday June 21, 2010 in her home. She was born February 4, 1920 to Olaves and Josephine (Hanson) Olson in Portland Township, Monroe County. She was baptized and confirmed at Moen Lutheran Church, rural Cashton and attended Woodard School. Elizabeth married Norton Jothen on May 11, 1940 in Waukon, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed in Timber Coulee for 12 years and then farmed on Lindvig Ridge until 1988 when they moved to Coon Valley. Elizabeth worked at the La Crosse Garment Factory for many years. She was a member of the Coon Valley Lutheran Church and WELCA. Elizabeth enjoyed rosemaling, ceramics, her flowers and hummingbirds.
Survivors include her sister-in-law Lillian Jothen; nephews and nieces Bob (Mary) Jothen, David (Cheryl) Jothen, Elizabeth "Sis" (Daniel) Bekkum, Ivan (Lawrena) Hoff, Tom Hoff, Paulene (Roland) Aspenson, Scott (Candy) Hoff, Carlyle "Ruffy" (Tina) Hoff, Karen Hoff and Nancy Hoff and many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norton, sister Juliette Hoff, 3 brothers Otto Olson, Oscar Dahl and Otis in infancy and 2 nephews John and Eddie Hoff.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday June 24, 2010 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Mitzi Miyamoto will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time. Online condolences at selandsfuneralhome.com.
