Esther Jean Dermer passed away in Viroqua Wisconsin on Friday, April 21, 2022. She was 97 years old.
Esther - who was referred to as Jeanne by family and friends - was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Bess (Crow) and Homer Lewis. She graduated from high-school there during WW II and worked at the Naval Ordinance Plant until she went to Indiana University where she earned a BS with honors in Accounting from the IU School of Business in 1946. In 1951 she received her MBA from the University of Chicago. Jeanne began a 30 year career at R.R. Donnelly printing company in Chicago. She worked primarily in their Human Resources Department.
Jeanne married her long-time friend, Henry Dermer, late in life. Shortly after their marriage she retired and they moved to LasVegas. After only 20 years of marriage Henry passed away. A few years later Jeanne moved to Coon Valley Wisconsin to be close to family living there.
For her whole life Jeanne was a constant learner and explorer of the world and its people. Her parents started this interest with road trips throughout the US. As an adult, she travelled to almost every state and to dozens of countries throughout the world.
Jeanne was close to her family. She had an important and close relationship with her first cousin’s children, Jim and John Munsch and every member of their families. This lasted until she passed away.
Private burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in LaFontaine, Indiana.
