Eugene "Gene" G. Groth

Eugene "Gene" G. Groth, 70 of Coon Valley, died Saturday October 31, 2015 at his home. He was born June 17, 1945 in La Crosse to George and Arlene (Beier) Groth. Gene served in the U.S. Navy from 1964-67 aboard the destroyer USS Hazelwood and subtender USS Canopus. He then served in the Wisconsin National Guard from 1968 - 72. Gene married Marsha Oliver on April 27, 2002 and had 13 wonderful years together. He was a retired carpenter and construction worker and enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and woodworking in his spare time.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha; two daughters, Amy True of La Crosse and Amanda Groth of Prairie du Chien; two sons Randy (Krista) of Bangor and Kert Groth (Jennifer) of La Crosse; a step son Jason (Tiffany) Rundhaugen of Coon Valley; three sisters, Janice (Harold) Billings of Kenosha, Barbara (James) Rouse and Lisa (Patrick) Nelson of La Crosse; a brother Charles (Bonnie) Groth of La Crosse; 11 grandchildren, Laramie, Laticia, Maddisen, Blake, Taylor, Dylan, Braelyn, Brody, Kinley, Kendlyn and Elidey; 4 great grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Joyce Lenser; sister-in-law, Denise (Tim) Kroes; brother-in-law Bill (Sue) Oliver and his beloved pet, Mini. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Taffy Groth in 2003.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday November 5, 2015 at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
