Eugene L. Proksch, 83, of Coon Valley died January 20, 2014 at Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse. He was born June 3, 1930 in Chaseburg to Albert and Edna (Schock) Proksch. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. Eugene graduated from Viroqua High School in 1947. On August 29, 1950 he married Elaine Sedevie in Chaseburg. He was a truck driver for Independence Bottling Co. from 1948-1950, farmed from 1950-1954, and then worked 10 years at the Coon Valley Creamery. Eugene was employed at Norplex/Isola from 1964-1992 as a supervisor/lab technician. He had also worked part time for Erickson Motors and was a bus driver for Westby Area Schools. Education and community involvement were very important to him and he enjoyed serving on many boards. He was a member of the Coon Valley Fire Department for 40 years, Coon Valley School Board, Coon Valley School Building Committee, Council Member & president of Coon Valley Lutheran Church, Coon Valley Lutheran Church Choir Member, Conservation and Snowmobile Club Member. He loved his family and mentoring and guiding his children and grandchildren. Music and traveling were #1 in Gene's life as well as ice skating, ice fishing, reading and all sporting events.
Survivors include his wife Elaine; 2 daughters Bonnie (John Harden) Proksch of Calumet Park, IL; Sandra Proksch-Troope of LaCrosse, WI; 3 grandchildren Jerami (Jonese) Harden, Meagan and Alexis Troope; 4 great grandchildren Jalyssa, Jakayla, Jerami and Johnni; 2 brothers Ronald (Janet) and James (Nancy) of Chaseburg; a brother-in-law Ray (Mary) Sedevie of Coon Valley and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Eldred in 1989.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday January 24, 2014 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev Mitzi Miyamoto will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Friday from 10 am until service time. In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to Coon Valley Church Endowment Fund, Sugar Creek Bible Camp or the Coon Creek Fire and Rescue. Online condolences may be offered at selandsfuneralhome.com.
