Gloria Dawn Kunert died peacefully on Friday, June 23, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on November 24, 1951 to Edward and Marian (Devic) Kunert. Gloria grew up on a dairy farm in Mormon Coulee and treasured her time on the farm. She loved to visit often to help harvest and can vegetables from the garden with her mother. She attended Viterbo School of Nursing from 1970 to 1975, and was employed for many years in the kitchen of St. Rose Convent. She enjoyed a very special relationship with her Grandma Devic and they spent a lot of time together throughout the years.
Although Gloria struggled with mental illness throughout her life, she managed to live independently for many years. She remained upbeat and jovial despite these challenges.
Gloria was a true blessing on this earth, and her laugh was known by all who met her. She was pure of heart and a deeply devout person, who cherished spending time with the nuns. She was very devoted to her family, and everyone’s biggest cheerleader. Some of her endearing refrains included, “Keep up the good work!”, and, “Eat heartily.”
Gloria is survived by her loving siblings, Rebecca, Doreen, Paul, and Myra; as well as her nieces and nephews, Sonja Selenite, Iris Kunert, Willie Kunert, and Kylee Kunert, and great nieces Felicity, Azaelea and great nephew Arlo. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Lakeview Health Center, Mayo Healthcare in La Crosse and Sparta, and the supportive staff at St. Croix Hospice.
Her easeful surrender at the end reminds us that love is eternal. Thank you, Gloria, for sharing your life with us.
