Harriet D. White, 91, of Viroqua, died Wednesday May 6, 2015 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua where she had been a resident the past 4 years. She was born November 24, 1923 at rural Westby, Vernon County to Albert and Stella (Sebion) Skolos. She was baptized, confirmed and a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Esofea. Harriet married Lawrence White on September 24, 1947 in Dubuque, Iowa. The couple farmed most of their married life in Liberty Pole and then Westby. Harriet worked at Sloane Foods and later at the Cheese Cellar. Harriet baked the best sugar cookies and was an excellent Tole painter and quilter. She loved rummage sales, playing cards and country music.
Survivors include 4 daughters, Laura (Alan) Krome of Louisville, Kentucky, Cindy Haro of Palau, Micronesia, Lola (Chris) Fortney and Sandra (Loren) Favor both of Viroqua; grandchildren, Amber (Scott) Mlynczak, Alex Fortney, Bethany Haro, Ariel (David) Walleser, Elliot Krome, Serena (Shane) Inman, Isabel Krome and F. Logan Favor; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Moran Fortney, Colby and Clayton Mlynczak, Sawyer and Wyatt Phillips, Caroline Mlynczak and Stella Walleser; a sister-in-law Anita White of Coon Rapids, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence on January 16, 2011, a brother Thore Skolos and a sister Signe Seland.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday May 9, 2015 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Esofea, rural Westby. Pastor Pete Beckstrand will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to Bethany Lutheran Church or the Bethel Home.Visits: 2
