Harvey O. Lunde, 78, of Westby, died Tuesday September 16, 2014 at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby.
He was born in La Crosse on May 8, 1936 to Archie and Bella (Dahlen) Lunde. Growing up in Timber Coulee, Harvey spoke Norwegian fluently and remembered when he started grade school he had to learn to speak English too. His childhood years in the valley were filled with trout fishing, skiing, hunting, and he was always busy on the farm.
As a young man, Harvey served in the Marines, had various jobs in construction and worked at the Coon Valley Creamery. He then farmed the home farm until his retirement. He was an excellent bowler and received many trophies, enjoyed golfing and played cards five days a week. Harvey truly had a love for baseball and was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. He and his mother listened to many games on the radio. Harvey was a man of faith and was an active member of the Skogdalen Lutheran Church.
Survivors include many close family and friends. He will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Arline B. Lunde, and his special loving companion of 24 years, Esther "Peggy" Mehlum and her two sons, Monte and Kelly Mehlum.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday September 22, 2014 at Skogdalen Lutheran Church, rural Westby. Rev. John Dumke will officiate with burial in the
church cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time.
