Hiram Max Locke, 78, of Coon Valley, died Sunday May 1, 2016 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. He was born August 31, 1937 in Nelsonville, Ohio to Linsley and Laura (Moore) Locke. Max served in the U.S. Marines from 1951-54 in Korea where he was an equipment operator. He married Debra Oliver on December 20, 1976 in Viroqua. Max was a truck driver for over 42 years. He went "state to state and border to border and then some". He drove for Stirl and Omer Sparks Trucking in Ohio for 10 years and retired from Martin Trucking in Tomah. In his retirement years, he worked part time at Rumsey's Salvage Yard and most recently was the Town of Coon recycling manager. Max enjoyed hunting and fishing, working in his workshop and spending time with his family and Yorkies.
Survivors include his wife, Debra; children, Linda (Gary) Rood of Ontario, Christal (James) Rygiel of La Crosse, Kimberly Janick of Holmen and Linzey (Lisa) Locke of Onalaska; 12 grandchildren; his former son-in-law Rick Janick of Brice Prairie and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Bobbie Cantwell, Linda Dingeldein and Rose Rumsey; a brother Eugene Roupe and his 2 Yorkies Petey and Smokey.
A visitation will be held Friday May 6, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.Visits: 3
