Howard "Howie" N. Midtlien

Howard Norman Midtlien, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 29th, 2025, at the age of 86, at his home in Chaseburg, WI surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on September 10, 1938, in Chaseburg and dedicated his life to his family, his community, and his passion for woodworking.

He is survived by the love of his life, Joanne; his children, Nancy Everson (Jay), Doug Midtlien, Jim Midtlien (Liz) and Leah Thurin (Chad); and his grandchildren, Josh (Megan), Seth, Alana (Steve), Jack, Lexi (Dillon), Griffin, Tessa, Haidyn, Ryker, Nick and Kate (Jace); and his great grandchildren, Wyatt, Hazel, Pheonix, Royal, Alexander and Chase, and Freya, a brother-in-law, Randy (Bernie) Koula and a sister-in-law, Mary Midtlien.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Hazel Midtlien, sister Beverly Hass, brother-in-law Raymond Hass, brother Gerald Midtlien, nephews Larry and Bruce Hass, and Shawn Koula and niece Julie Ross.

Howie was a firm believer in giving his time and talents when he could. He worked for the Village of Chaseburg for 27 years. He served in the United States Army for 3 years. He served as the President of the Chaseburg Lions Club and was an active member of the Chaseburg Snowtrailers. He served on the school board for Westby Area Schools for 6 years. He was on the Board of Directors for Vernon County Crime Stoppers for 30 years and served on the St. Peter's Church Council, Finance and Cemetery Committees for many years.

He also enjoyed being a member of Post 202 Chaseburg Legion and Friends of Chaseburg.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 5 at 11:00 am at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. Rev. Steven Oldre will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be on Friday, April 4 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and on Saturday at 10:00 am prior to the service at the church.
