James “Jim” D. Proksch, 75, of Chaseburg, passed away Wednesday October 3, 2018 at his home with his family at his side. His father passed away on the same day in 1958 in the same home.
Jim was born May 10, 1943 in La Crosse to Albert and Edna (Schock) Proksch. He graduated from Viroqua High School in 1961. On April 20, 1963 he married his high school sweetheart Nancy Oliver. Jim farmed his life time on the family farm. He worked for a brief time at Trane Co. and Gateway Foods, Aalgaard and Brye Construction and then his own construction business. After retirement he enjoyed making things for his family - especially Christmas gifts. Jim was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on the church council several times and the cemetery board.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Nancy; children Rodney (Elayne) and Rhonda (Keith) Rach; grandchildren, Renee (Joe) Bakkestuen, Kelly (Cody) Strangstalien, Heidi (Nathan) Semke, Ethan (Jade) Proksch and Anton (fiancé Sarah) Proksch, great grandchildren, Haley and Riley Strangstalien, Brantley and William Proksch, Brody, Daxon and Austin Semke; a brother Ronald (Janet) Proksch; sister-in-law Elaine Proksch; brothers-in-law Ronald (Ruth) Oliver and Douglas (Jean) Oliver; sister-in-law Lorie (Terry) Proksch; nieces Bonnie and Sandra and nephews David (Doris) and Donald Proksch.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law Orville and Alice Oliver and brothers Eldred and Eugene.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday October 6, 2018 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. Rev. Steven Oldre will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time.
