Jaran K. Rundahl, 84, of rural Coon Valley died Saturday January 15, 2011 at his home. He was born in the same home June 14, 1926 to Henry and Bessie (Stafslien) Rundahl. Jaran was received into God's kingdom of grace by the sacrament of holy baptism and later confessed his baptismal covenant by rite of confirmation at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. He married Elaine Jahnke in 1949 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Jaran took over the family dairy farm as a young man and milked Holstein cows and grew corn, hay, beans, tobacco and oats. He was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church - Hamburg where he served on the church council. Jaran was actively involved with many organizations and boards in the area. He was Town of Greenfield chairman, a La Crosse County Supervisor, President/Manager of the Coon Valley Co-op Creamery, a member of the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital Board, the Coulee Bank Board, FMHA Board and the Norskedalen Board He was also the general contractor for the last one room school in Wisconsin. Jaran loved to travel and enjoyed family parties and reunions.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Elaine; 5 children Ann (Don) Mallek of Spring, Texas, John (Sandy) Rundahl of Coon Valley, Mary (Rolf) Hauck of North Oaks, Minn., David (Brenda) Rundahl of Coon Valley and Carol (Ken) Tillman of Greenfield; 17 grandchildren Karen, Pamela, John, Joseph, Jennifer, Daniel, David, Kari, Amy, Sarah, Britt, April, Beth, Dale, Rachel, Erik and Angela; 11 great grandchildren Vivian, Grant, Emily, Paige, Claire, Jane, Ruth, Faith, Noah, Lauren and Charlie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters Amy Runge, Ida Hunter and Hazel Olstad.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday January 19, 2011 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. Pastor Steven Oldre and Pastor Mark Bartling will officiate with burial in St. Peter's Hamburg Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to Luther High School, Gundersen Lutheran Hospital Foundation or Norskedalen.
