Jim Allen Wemette, 47, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully at Gundersen Health System Palliative Care on August 30, 2020. Jim was born to Linda and Harold Wemette on July 15, 1973. He grew up in Coon Valley and graduated from Westby High School in 1991.
Jim was employed by Gundersen Health System for 27 years as an Environmental Specialist. He drove truck and moved equipment both in-house and to outlying clinics and hospitals. Jim knew a lot of people at Gundersen and was well liked for his outgoing personality. He worked many years for the Foundation and assisted with numerous fundraising initiatives at the organization. Jim was an active member and supporter of the Service Employees International Union.
Jim enjoyed his dog, Lucy, NASCAR races, Brewers, Packers and Badgers, music concerts, boating, golfing and collecting Old Style memorabilia.
Jim is survived by his parents, Linda and Harold Wemette; his brother, Jon Wemette, his sister, Julie and her husband Joe Kauss Jr.; nephews and nieces, Jacob, Justin, Jade and Karly Wemette, Joe Kauss III and Jamison Kauss; great nephews and nieces, Aliyah Wemette, Trey, Carter and Colton Kauss, Kali Kauss and Layla Wemette; his special rescue dog, Lucy, a Chocolate Lab who was his constant companion and man’s best friend. Jim had so many friends and relatives too numerous to mention them all.
Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leo and Leona Olson and William “Bill” and Betty Wemette; uncles Gary and Roger “Barney” Wemette; his fiancé Jessica Starkey and dear friend Scott Halverson.
Jim suffered greatly in these last few years healthwise due to a traumatic brain injury, a stroke that left him blind in his left eye and finally a broken neck and liver and kidney failure.
God has taken him home where there will be no more pain and suffering. We are heartbroken and will miss him terribly.
All are welcome for a visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday September 4, 2020 at Logger Field in La Crosse with a memorial service at 4:30 p.m. The family encourages friends and family to honor Jim by wearing any of his favorite sports or racing teams or music apparel and to dress casually.
