Joanne T. Fletcher

Joanne T. Fletcher, 93 of Coon Valley, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024, with her family by her side.  Joanne was born on October 1, 1930, in Coon Valley, Wisconsin to Julia H. Mathison and Einar W. Anderson.  She was baptized and confirmed at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church.  Joanne was the Homecoming Queen and graduated as Salutatorian from Westby High School.  She was selected for Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities her senior year at Luther College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree.   She taught elementary school in Florida, Illinois, and Wisconsin.  Joanne met Jack Fletcher in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.  They were married on June 25, 1955, at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church.

After teaching many years, Joanne and Jack left their teaching careers and moved with their children to Coon Valley where they joined the family business, owning and operating the Anderson Store for 20 years. Joanne loved art, music, and plants.  She filled her home with all, painting pictures, playing the piano, and green plants growing throughout.  While teaching, Joanne played the piano for school programs, and she played for Sunday School for many years at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church where she was a member for most of her life.  Joanne had plants of many varieties and cared tenderly for a Christmas cactus, still living today, that belonged to her grandmother.

Family meant everything to Joanne, and she would smile with delight every time she saw her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.   She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly, seeing to all their needs, and making them laugh.   She encouraged and cheered on all her grandchildren in all their activities and endeavors, never missing an event.  Joanne cared for all of them in their turn, helping to raise them, and her unconditional love was a North Star for us all.

Joanne is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Dale) Wedwick, and her son, Peter (Carol) Fletcher, six grandchildren, Timothy (Imane) Griffin, Anne (Caleb) Pearson, Cole and Maddi Fletcher, Megan (Richard) Fowler and Cassandra Fowler, two great-grandchild, Lilly Fowler and Archer Jack Pearson, one sister Betty (Anderson) Sanders, and many other family and friends.  With her love and tenderness, she is smiling on us, and watching over us now.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Einar Anderson and Julia (Mathison) Anderson, and her husband, Jack Fletcher.

Joanne’s family gives their deepest thanks to the staff at Creamery Creek for the loving and compassionate care, kindness, and friendship they gave to Joanne.  Her family also gives their heartfelt thanks to the staff from Moments Hospice, from whom Joanne received such loving and thoughtful care.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday June 14, 2024, at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Jim Scaife will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. The Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley is assisting the family. Condolences may be given at selandsfuneralhome.com.
