Joyce H. Matthews, 91, of rural Stoddard, died Sunday September 17, 2017 Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. God decided to raise the beloved soul of Joyce Helen Huss Matthews to his beautiful Kingdom. There where she joined her husband, the love of her life, Calvin Matthews, and two sons Lantz Johnson and Craig Matthews, who also bestowed her heart. Surviving Joyce are her three daughters, whom she adored and now watches from above, Mille (Robert) Cooper, Connie Evett and Calle (Mark) Ratkovich. She was born in Freeport, Illinois on January 15th, 1926, living a very wonderful life of 91 years. She loved her home in Stoddard, Wisconsin facing west, with a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River. She loved nature, it always gave her a sense of peace. She would watch for the wildlife to come and visit as she would drink her morning coffee. The deer, squirrels and hummingbirds gave her such serenity. She had a passion and gift for making her surroundings reflect her beautiful soul that harbored within. In her time here on earth, she touched the souls of her 11 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Her light helped shine the good in everyone she had the chance to connect with, her wisdom absorbed by many, and she taught many that the heart was meant to be kind and forgiving. She enjoyed showing her loved ones the beauty that life has to offer, even the miracles in the small things. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday October 9th at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley with a time of visiting from 5pm to 7pm. Rev. Ted Dewald will officiate. A dinner will follow at the Stockyard next door following the service. Online condolences may be offered at selandsfuneralhome.com.
