Katherine M. Johnson

Katherine M. Johnson, 92, of La Crosse and formerly of Chaseburg, died Thursday December 22, 2016 in her home at Eagle Crest South. She was born December 15, 1924 in the Town of Jefferson, Vernon County to Oliver and Esther (Gronning) Nerison. Katherine was baptized at Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Viroqua and confirmed at Vang Lutheran Church, rural Westby. She attended Nerison School and graduated from Viroqua High School in 1942. Katherine attended Coleman Technical School in La Crosse. She worked at Western Fruit Co. and then Trane Co. in La Crosse. Katherine married Donald Johnson on October 11, 1947 at Vang Lutheran Church. The couple farmed near Westby until 1955 when they moved to a farm near Chaseburg. They moved to La Crosse in 1990. Donald died July 10, 2002. Katherine was an active member of the Lower Coon Valley Lutheran Church, Sarah Circle and WELCA where she served as president. In earlier years she was a leader with Homemakers and 4-H. Katherine's faith was her foundation and her family was most important. She loved spending time with all of them.

Survivors include 5 children, Donna Johnson (Tim O'Brien)of Greenfield, Janice (John) Blihovde of Westby, Sharon (David) Schulz of La Crosse, Daniel (Denise) of Chaseburg and Larry (Vicki) of Onalaska; 9 grandchildren, Amy (Rick) Benish, Heidi (John) Blihovde Hamilton, Jodi (Nathan) Kromke, Tyler (Lori) Schulz, Melissa (DJ O'Donnel) Johnson, Aaron (Michelle) Johnson, Jay (fiancAC. Christin) Johnson, Andy (Whitney) Johnson and Abby (James) Beck; 12 great grandchildren, 1 sister Orvella Nustad of Aurora, CO; a sister-in-law Dorothy Gray of La Crosse and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Ervin Nerison and a sister Lucille Wrobel.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday December 28, 2016 at the Lower Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Warren Granke will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time.
