Katrina M. Schlaver, 43, of Rockland, died Wednesday May, 18, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Medical Center in La Crosse. She was born July 8, 1972 in La Crosse, WI to Kenneth and Marilyn (Sutton) Gilkes and graduated from Westby High School in 1990. Katrina married Bruce Schlaver on August 17, 1991. She worked in childcare for a number of years nurturing young children which she thoroughly enjoyed. With the closing of the daycare, Katrina went onto her next venture and attained her associate's degree in accounting. Then the real fun began when she was hired as the office manager for Flock's Heating and Air Conditioning where she found her extended family and friends for the next 10 years. Katrina strongly believed in spending quality time with her family and friends.
Katrina loved living life to the fullest. Traveling on several road trips out west by land and Caribbean cruises by sea. Also tagging along and supporting Bruce on his many hobbies. She was an avid Cubs fan despite her family being proud Milwaukee Brewers fans. She would wear her Packer apparel proudly during her Packer games. She and Bruce enjoyed their Nascar parties with their many friends. She was a regular participate in the yearly Relay for Life in Chaseburg.
Survivors include her husband and soul mate, Bruce of Rockland, 3 sisters, Debra Gilkes of La Crosse, Francine (Bill) Gartner of Waterloo, WI and Jean (Brian) Lange of Hillsboro, WI; 3 Brothers, Charles Gilkes(Rachael) of Onalaska, Damian Gilkes (Cheryl) of Onalaska and Heath Gilkes (Tammy) of Westby; Mother and father-in-law, Virginia and Gerald Schlaver; and brother-in-law Curt (Jen) Schlaver. 12 nieces and nephews and 5 great nieces and nephews. And she is deeply missed by her darling Sage.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Trudy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday May 23, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cashton. Rev. Michael Klos will officiate with burial at St. John's Cemetery in Sparta. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cashton with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. The Seland Funeral Home of Coon Valley is assisting the family. Online condolences may be offered at selandsfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
The family would like thank Dr. Ticku and all of the staff at Mayo Clinic Health System for the kindness and care they showed to Katrina over the last 2 years. Your willingness to joke and have fun when providing care meant a great deal to Katrina.
