Kenneth I. Berg, 79, of rural Coon Valley died peacefully at his home Thursday evening June 17, 2010. He was born August 10, 1930 in rural Coon Valley to John and Agnes (Strupp) Berg Sr. Kenneth was baptized, confirmed and a life long member at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict on the USS Ross. He married Yvonne Sennes on October 7, 1961 in Houston, Minnesota. Kenneth farmed on the Berg home farm on North Ridge until the day he died.
He was a member of the Coon Valley American Legion Post #116, the Coon Creek VFW #10532, the 40 and 8, a past member of the Coon Valley Lions and a former board member for the town of Greenfield. Kenneth enjoyed having his grandchildren close by and spending time with them, tinkering in his shop and the annual Berg family fishing trip up north.
Survivors include his wife Yvonne; 4 children Bryan (Linda) of Coon Valley, Cheryl (Tim) Trussoni of Genoa, Darin (Shana) and Scott (Sherri) both of Coon Valley; 11 grandchildren Dalton, McKenzie and Spencer Berg, Kaitie and Jessie Trussoni, Jacob and Kenny Berg, and Lauren, Sam, Jayda and Ava Berg; 1 brother John Jr. "Jack" (Shirley) Berg of Coon Valley, 2 sisters Joyce (Marv) Temp of Coon Valley and Mary Elsen of La Crosse; a sister-in-law Rachel Berg and a brother-in-law Virgil Sennes both of Coon Valley and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard; his niece Shari Berg; 2 brothers-in-law David Elsen and Gary Sennes; and a sister-in-law Deanna Carson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday June 22, 2010 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Mitzi Miyamoto will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Coon Valley American Legion Post #116. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time.
