Lawrence "Larry" J. Malin

Lawrence "Larry" J. Malin, 74, of rural Genoa passed away peacefully Monday February 28, 2011 at his home. He was born July 11, 1936 to Delbert and Rose (Trussoni) Malin in Genoa, WI. Larry was united in marriage to Anita Sandvick on December 29, 1973, in Waukon, Iowa. The couple farmed on his family farm their married life in rural Genoa. Larry spent a few years working on the railroad in Chicago before returning to the family farm. The couple later spent winters in Arizona with their best friends Bob and Colleen Kruger.

Larry was an avid hunter - continuing to hunt even after retirement with special Elk hunting trips to Oregon with his close cousin Tom Garavalia. Larry also took the trip of a lifetime on the Freedom Flight last May with his good friend Bob Kruger. He remained active helping out on the farm and was a big Green Bay Packer fan. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and loved traveling to visit family and friends. He was a member of the Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church.

Larry is survived by seven children John (Carlene) of Ames, Iowa, Roger (Chris) of Newhall, Iowa, Jane (Vern) Horstman of Sacramento, Calif., David (Linda) of Genoa, Annette Williams of Hurst, Texas, Roy (Traci) of Mindoro and Paulette (Todd) Oppriecht of Genoa; 16 grandchildren, Josh (Raquel) Malin, Ben (Jill) Malin, Andy Malin, Lis (Josh) Holck, Matt (Tara) Malin, Justin Malin, Jessica (Chris) Andersen, David Horstman, Tim (Megan) Malin, Randy Williams, Savanna Williams, Adam (Caron) Malin, Ashley (Nick) Wateski, and Rachel, Michael and Katie Oppriecht; eight great-grandchildren, Grace, Peyton, Grayson, Addyson, Hadley, Stella, Jonah and Lance; three brothers, Alvin (Phyllis), Fr. Delbert, Jr. and Mark (Lorraine) Malin; two sisters, Betty (David) Gerke and Rosemary; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Anita on April 26, 2007 and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday March 4, 2011 at the Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church, rural Chaseburg. Rev. Dan Wollman and Fr. Delbert Malin will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
