Leonard L. Dunwoody, Jr., 80 of La Crosse died Thursday January 17, 2019 at his home. He was born April 28, 1938 in La Crosse to Leonard and Serena (Nordstrom) Dunwoody, Sr.
Leonard was born into a military family. His father was a retired lieutenant colonel. Dunwoody traveled from Westby to Parks Air Force Base in California for basic training and was transferred to Wyoming where he attended stocks records school, which required a FBI background clearance. He remained stateside and his travels took him from Wyoming to Texas for two years and back to Westby after he was discharged in 1960.
Dunwoody, a confirmed bachelor, relocated to La Crosse where he was employed by Trane Company, retiring after 37 years. An athlete at heart, in high school he played baseball and had a curve ball no one could hit. He has also been an avid golfer for the past 50 years and loved every minute of it. He played golf every day with many good friends at Cedar Creek Golf Course.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by several cousins, and many good friends.
A Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday January 23, 2019 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Cemetery with military honors by the Coon Valley American Legion Post #116. The Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley is assisting the family.
