Lillian A. Kapanke, 98, formerly of rural Coon Valley died on Tuesday January 25, 2011 just short of her 99th birthday at the Sterling House in La Crosse with her family by her side. She had been a resident there the past 3 years. Lillian was born March 8, 1912 in Greenfield Township, La Crosse Co. to Edward and Amelia (Eggler) Meyer. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Reformed Church in La Crosse. On June 4, 1935 Lillian married Gerhard Kapanke at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in La Crosse and together they raised 6 children. The couple farmed at rural Coon Valley for many years. In their retirement they enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family. She was a long time member of St. Peter's Hamburg Lutheran Church.
Survivors include 6 children David (Janice) and Paul (Janice) of Coon Valley, Mary (Paul) Benson of Stoddard, John (Sherry) of Minneapolis, Dan (Ruth) and Ruth (Robert) Lenser of La Crosse; 20 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Alice Deters of Spring Grove, Minn. and Marion (Wesley) Lorenz of La Crosse and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gerhard on September 27, 2009; 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday January 29, 2011 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. Rev. Steven Oldre will officiate with burial in the Hamburg Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time.
