Linda E. Holte

Linda Elaine Holte, 84 of Westby, passed on Wednesday, February 28th, 2024.

Linda was born March 3, 1939 to Chester and Marjorie (Smith) Hendrickson in Clinton township Vernon County one of three girls. She was a farm girl at heart, but a farm accident to her dad caused the family to move to Westby where her mom taught school and her dad worked for Tri-State Breeders.  Following graduation from Westby High in 1957, the family moved to Redding CA where her dad managed a large dairy farm and mom continued to teach. After two years at Shasta Jr. college, where she played in the band and was active in sports, the family moved back to Westby. Linda finished her degree in education at UW Platteville. Linda married Russel Holte on August 14th, 1960. Russel taught elementary students while Linda completed her studies. Linda taught school for 33 years in the Coon Valley and Chaseburg elementary schools.  Linda's career was rewarding to her and her children felt pride in the number of times they heard "She was the best teacher."

She loved to trout fish and always knew where the big fish were hiding. She skied the first Birkebeiner 50 years ago with her family. Linda was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to be at all sporting events and very much enjoyed watching sports on TV. She looked forward to her special Christmas's and spending as much time as possible with her grandkids. Linda loved animals from horses to her cats.

Linda had a very close relationship with her sister Coryl and they did many things together, even a little gambling once in a while.  She was also very proud of all of her nieces and nephews, their accomplishments and families.

Linda and Russel raised and loved two sons Ryan (Dawn) and Jaymie (Marcie) who grew up and remain in the area.

Linda is survived by her husband Russel, sons Ryan (Dawn) and Jaymie (Marcie), her grandchildren Jacob (Chad) Henry, Jess Holte, Riley (Katherine) Holte, and her sister Coryl Evenstad.  She is further survived by her sister in-law Robin (Chuck) Sveum and many nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her sister Maralyn, brother in-law Loren Holte and sister in-law Caryl Vegara.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday March 8, 2024 at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley. Private burial will be in Our Savior’s Cemetery in Westby.

The family would like to thank Dr. Davidson and the staff at VMH for their excellent care and sister Coryl for her many trips with food and other needs for mom.
