Luella M. Galstad, 82, of Coon Valley died Thursday December 27, 2012 surrounded by her family at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse after a short battle with leukemia. She was born May 23, 1930 to Milton and Anna (Kirkeeng) Everson. Luella was baptized and confirmed at Fish Creek Lutheran Church. She attended Sparta High School and Vernon County Normal/Teacher College and then finished her teaching degree at UW-LaCrosse. Luella taught for many years at Cathedral School in La Crosse. On November 6, 1954 she married Marvin Galstad at Fish Creek Lutheran Church. The couple farmed the home farm until 1985 when they moved to Coon Valley. Marvin died March 7, 2012.
Luella was a member of the Coon Valley Lutheran Church and WELCA, North Ridge Circle and the North Ridge Homemakers. She enjoyed playing Bunco and visiting with the sisters of St. Rose Convent.
Survivors include children Lou Ann (Gary) Best, John Galstad and Susan (Brian) Strangstalien; grandchildren Nathan, Jared, Johnea, Mariah, Leah, Troy, Cody and Jay; great grandchildren Alex, Addy, Ty, Haley, Riley and Caden; sister Eleanor (Tip) Bagstad, brothers Robert (Judean), Howard (Beverly) and James (Lynda) Everson; sisters and brothers-in-law Ruth Everson, Lorraine Everson, Joan Everson and Virgil Lee; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister Hazel Lee, brothers Lloyd, Sigurd, Spencer and Arthur and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Arnold and Ardelle Moilien.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday December 31, 2012 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Mitzi Miyamoto will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to the Leukemia Foundation or the Children's Miracle Network.
