Marjorie L. Ophus

Marjorie L. Ophus, 89, of Coon Valley died Thursday October 1, 2015 at Hillview Health Care Center in LaCrosse where she had been a resident the past 3 months. She was born February 16, 1926 in Victory, Wisconsin to Freeman and Alvina (Catanau) Sidie. She married Henry Ophus on June 14, 1945 in Coon Valley. The couple lived on North Ridge, rural Coon Valley until retiring to the village of Coon Valley in 1977. Henry died February 6, 1978. Marjorie was a member of the Coon Valley Lutheran Church and WELCA where she was active with quilting. She also enjoyed her morning walks with Elaine DeBuhr for many years and was an avid reader.

Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis (William) Randall of Dubuque, Iowa; one son, Paul Ophus of Onalaska; two sisters, Dorothy Sidie of La Crosse and Alice Gemill of Merced, Calif.; one brother Charles Sidie of La Crosse; a sister-in-law Ruth Ophus of Viroqua and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Lorraine Ophus, Irene Strait, Virgie Running and Ruthie Sidie and one brother Clarence Sidie.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday October 6, 2015 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Mitzi Miyamoto will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time. The Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley is assisting the family. Online condolences may be offered at selandsfuneralhome.com.
