Marvin Dale Galstad

Marvin Dale Galstad, age 81, of Coon Valley, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 24, 1930 in Coon Township, Vernon, Co to Maurice and Alma (Thorson) Galstad. Marvin was baptized and confirmed at Coon Valley Lutheran Church. He attended North Ridge Country School and on November 6, 1954 he married Luella Everson at Fish Creek Lutheran Church. The couple farmed on the home farm until 1985 when health reasons forced Marvin to retire and move to Coon Valley. Marvin Loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and grandchildren. He loved telling them stories about his farming days and how land conservation was so important. Marvin was an avid reader and enjoyed listening and watching baseball. He was a member of Coon Valley Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and cemetery committee for many years. Marvin also served on the Chaseburg Farmers Union Board of Directors for many years.

Marvin is survived by his wife: Luella Galstad; children: Lou Ann (Gary) Best, John Galstad, Susan (Brian) Stangstalien, eight grandchildren: Nathan, Jared, Johnea, Mariah, Leah, Troy, Cody and Jay; six great grandchildren: Alex, Addy, Ty, Haley, Riley and Caden; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Ruth Everson, Lorraine Everson, Joan Everson, Tip and Eleanore Bagstad, Virgil Lee, Robert and Judean Everson, Howard and Beverly Everson, James and Lynda Everson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. HE was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Ardelle Moilien; brothers-in-law: Lloyd, Sigurd, Spencer and Arthur Everson; Arnold Moilien and a sister-in-law: Hazel Lee.

Funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, March 12, 2012 at Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Officiating at the service will be Pastor Mitzi Miyamoto with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 4-7pm at Seland Funeral Home, Coon Valley. The visitation will continue on Monday at church from 10am until the time of service at 11am.

The family expresses a special thank you to the staff at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital for their wonderful care.

Memorials will be given to the Coon Valley Library and Coon Valley Baseball in lieu of sending Thank You cards.
