Michael L. Harris

Michael L. Harris, 64, of Viroqua, WI, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2014 surrounded by his family at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua of cancer. He was born April 16, 1950 to Roger and Marion (Schumacher) Harris in Kenmare, ND. He graduated from Des Lacs High School, Des Lacs, ND in 1968 and served in the US Navy from 1970 to 1974 in the Pacific. Mike married Beth Carlson on March 3, 1979 in Minot, ND.

He was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 300 of Minot, ND. He worked in Power Plants in the Midwest and eastern part of the US. Because of his work locations his family was able to experience a lot of the US. The family moved to CT in 1988 and then to Richland Center, WI in 1993 and then to Viroqua, WI in 1999.

Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandchildren. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He enjoyed woodworking and making things for his children and grandchildren. He loved to travel and enjoyed the beauty of God's creation. He was a loving and caring husband, Dad and Grandpa. Mike was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Brethren Church in Westby, WI and served on the Trustee Board.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Beth; sons, Dustin (Julia) of La Farge, WI, Mitchell (Jennifer) of Rockland, WI and Kevin (Rachel) of Holmen, WI. Six grandchildren; Christopher, Vanessa, Cooper, Sophie, Macie and Aubree. Mother; Marion Harris, 4 sisters; Darla (Gaylen) Salberg of Grand Forks, ND, Kathie (Jack) Bender of Mechanicsburg, PA, Kerry (Warren) Jessen of Two Harbors, MN and Mary Pat Bernier of Topsham, ME. Brother-in-law; Dale (Mary) Carlson of Sawyer, ND. Sister - in-law; Linda (Jerry) Olson of Minot, ND and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Harris, father-in-law, Winfield Carlson and mother-in-law, Thelma Carlson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday October 31, 2014 at Bethesda Lutheran Brethren Church in Westby, WI. Rev. Paul Tjelta will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the US Navy Honors Team. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Friday also at the church from 10 a.m. until service time.
