Phillip "Ichabod" J. Bakkestuen

Phillip “Ichabod” J. Bakkestuen, 61, died Friday January 3, 2025. He was born August 4, 1963 in Viroqua to Joseph and Annette “Tootsie” (Ofte) Bakkestuen. He was baptized and confirmed at Vang Lutheran Church. Phil attended Westby and Viroqua Schools. In his earlier years, he worked for Hemstock/County Block but farming was his passion. He resided at rural Westby all his life. He loved all animals and the outdoors and spending time with friends and family. 

Survivors include his only child Joseph (Renee) Bakkestuen and grandson John; sisters, Jo Ann Palmer and Tena Goodwin (Mark); nieces and nephew, Jessey Bakkestuen (Tim), Ash Goodwin (Hailie), Autumn Goodwin (Jordan), sister-in-law Yvonne Bakkestuen, many great nieces and nephews, and other relatives.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Jeffrey “Fritz”. Phil was a true MacGyver in every sense. Always ready with a rope to tie down a load or lend a helping hand with his best friend Lex present in the passenger seat. He was the person you could count on whenever you needed him. He also had a special place in his heart for his animals, especially Peanut, his beloved cow with a limp. Phil could never turn down an animal in need. His resourcefulness and kindness were unmatched and will be undoubtedly remembered.

 Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday January 8, 2025, at Vang Lutheran Church, rural Westby. Rev. Alyssa Weaver will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time.
