Richard "Stokely" D. Stakston, 63, of Westby, died Sunday July 22, 2012 at his home. He was born April 14, 1949 to George and Maline (Jacobson) Stakston in Viroqua. Stokely was baptized and confirmed at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church and graduated from Westby High School in 1967. He was married to Lorie Tainter and they later divorced. Stokely worked as a carpenter in the Westby area most of his life. He was active at Snowflake Ski Club and Golf Course and the Westby Rod and Gun Club. He greatly enjoyed his grandson Parker and loved the outdoors - hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his son Curt Stakston of Minneapolis; grandson Parker; one sister Joyce McGarvey of Westby; three brothers Myron (Judy) of Coon Valley, David (Sandra) of Holmen and Glen (Ann) of Cashton; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Arvid and his ex-wife Lorie.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday July 25, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley. Burial will be private in the Coon Valley Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
