Ruby E. Nevsimal

February 10, 1937 — August 23, 2022

Ruby E. Nevsimal, 85, of Westby died Tuesday August 23, 2022 at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby. She was born February 10, 1937 to Sigert and Hattie (Johnson) Larson on her grandparents’ farm in Purdy, rural Viroqua. She attended Sugar Grove grade school near Westby and graduated from Westby High School.  She was set up on a blind date with Fred Nevsimal on Christmas night in 1953. The date went on without a hitch and 6 months later, on June 5, 1954, they were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  They celebrated their 68th Anniversary this past June. The couple both worked for Kramer Construction where Fred drove truck and Ruby cooked for the road crew. They moved to Westby where they started a body shop business. Ruby worked as bookkeeper and hosted the customers with coffee and baked goods. They later moved to a hobby farm between Westby and Cashton, near Newry and moved the business there. While on the farm, Ruby made sure there was a garden and enjoyed working in the yard. Their home was always welcome to anyone. They enjoyed camping as a family and later purchased many nice campers. They spent many years of camping with their kids and friends and had a lot of good times at Sidie Hollow. Nearing retirement, they moved to Sparta. They enjoyed the easy life and were rummage sale junkies. Ruby worked a couple days a week at the Dollar Store, enjoying the interaction with customers and co-workers. The last years saw them move back to Westby where their roots began. In July 1970, Ruby was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She loved and respected God’s Word, the Bible. She was comforted by the Bible’s hope, that even if she died, God would resurrect her back to life on a restored Paradise earth.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Fred; 5 children, Andrea (Ken) Clark, Mark (Anita), Jeff (Patty), Joe (Jill) and Jason (Sarah); 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a special sister, Debra (Dan) Seekamp of Bangor, sister, Margaret Inman of Westby; brothers, Theron (Karen) Larson and Arthur (Carol) Larson both of Westby; step brother, Pete Olson of Lacrosse; 2 sisters-in-law, Barb and Karen Larson;  a special niece, Kristen (Todd) Degenhardt and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Timothy; her parents; a sister, Rebecca Shumate and 3 brothers, Sigert Larson, Jr., Richard and Theodore Larson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday August 27, 2022 at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley. A visitation will be held from 9 am until service time. Mark Riesebieter will officiate with burial in the Bloomingdale Cemetery, rural Westby. Condolences may be given at selandsfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be given to the Bloomingdale Cemetery Association or the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Viroqua.

A special thank you to the staff of Norseland Nursing Home and St. Croix Hospice for their support and comforting care.
