Sylvester M. King, Jr.

Sylvester M. King Jr., 89 of Coon Valley, passed away at Norseland Nursing Home Friday, October 13, 2023. He was born October 18, 1933 in Coon Valley to Mabel (Moen) and Sylvester M. King Sr. He was the third of four children. He enlisted in the Marines right after high school graduation. He served one tour of duty during the Korean Conflict where he attained the rank of Sergeant.

Sylvester married Janet Arenz on June 30, 1956. He worked at Trane Company in La Crosse and was recognized for thirty-eight years of service at retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors such as fishing, hunting, and trapping. He was well known for his love of ginseng hunting. Syl enjoyed taking scenic rides in the country with his wife, Janet.

Survivors include his children: son Gregory (Tory), daughter Debra (Jon) Holen, son Bruce (Nancy) and son Kevin (Rhonda); ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; a brother Raymond (Karen) King, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Janet, a brother James and his wife Mary along with an infant sister Alice.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday October 20, 2023 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church. Rev. Jim Scaife will officiate with the burial in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday October 19, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until service time.
