Verda M. Lund

Verda Mae (Brown) Lund, 86 of Westby, died October 13, 2018 at Bland-Bekkedal Hospice Center in Viroqua. Verda was born May 30, 1932 to Lawrence and Bernice (Thompson) Brown in Yankton, South Dakota. She graduated from Yankton High School and furthered her education at the University of South Dakota earning a degree in Art Education and later a Master’s degree.

She married Lyle Lund and they celebrated their sixty-third anniversary in August. In 1962, Lyle secured a job at Vernon Electric Cooperative in Westby. Since Westby Area Schools didn’t offer an Art curriculum, Verda was hired to introduce an Art program. She taught classes while traveling throughout the various schools and also a class at the college level for thirty-two years. Upon retirement in 1994, she worked tirelessly at her artistry of creating fantastic wall hangings, many composed of pheasant feathers from her homestead in South Dakota. Her artistic ability was pursued in areas of painting, quilting, jewelry design, and creating cards. Her color design appeared in the beauty of many floral gardens she raised. As an avid reader, she “relaxed” her mind. Verda is survived by her husband, Lyle; son, Britt (Linda) Lund; grandchildren: Zachary, Madeline, and Mitchell; sister, Shirley (Bert) Cecconi of San Antonio, Texas; brother Robert (Bob) Brown of Lone Rock, Texas; nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Bernice Brown.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2018, at the Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church in Westby with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Pastor Dan Wollman will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Seland Funeral Home is serving the family.
