Verna A. Brye

Verna A. Brye, 70, of Coon Valley, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse. She had been diagnosed with endometrial cancer in April 2012.

Verna was born March 14, 1946 at St. Ann's Hospital in La Crosse to Norman and Myra (Volden) Klomsten. She was baptized and confirmed at the Vang Lutheran Church in rural Westby and graduated from Westby High School in 1964. She married Robert E. Brye on October 16, 1965 and became a member of the Coon Valley Lutheran Church.

She was employed at Vernon Manor Nursing Home for 29 years before retiring in March 2012.

Survivors are her son Daryl (Rhonda) Brye of rural Stoddard and their children Brandon (Samantha) Brye and great-granddaughter Luna Elizabeth of Livermore, CA and Casey Brye of La Crosse; daughter Kimberly (Patrick) Cade and their children Brett, Brynn, and Riley, all of rural Viroqua. her nieces and their families, Roxanne (Steven) Johnson and Diane (William) Pretasky of La Crosse.

Preceding Verna in death were her husband Robert (2001); mother Myra (1976), her father Norman (1989), sister Margaret Peterson (1987), and brother-in-law Harlan Peterson (1994).

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church with Pastor Mitzi Miyamoto officiating and burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Seland Funeral Home, Coon Valley, and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Online condolences may be offered at selandsfuneralhome.com.
