Verna M. Stacy, 81, of Cashton, died Wednesday May 1, 2013 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua following a long illness. She was born November 25, 1931 in Vernon County to Leonard and Nora (Nerison) Nelson. Verna was baptized and confirmed at the Vang Lutheran Church. She graduated from Westby High School in 1950. Verna married Melvin Stacy in 1952. The couple lived in St. Louis, Missouri for many years where she worked as a real estate broker. Following Melvin's death on May 8, 1996, Verna moved to Cashton to be near family. Verna was a member of the Vang Lutheran Church and WELCA and enjoyed flower gardening and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include 2 children, Michael (Toni) Stacy of Garland, Texas and Gloria (Daoud "David") Korany of Charlotte, N.C.; 7 grandchildren Becky (Terry), Stephanie (Alex), Natalie, Jennifer, Jason (Shelly), Matthew (Katie) and Cindy (Brian); 4 great grandchildren, Eva, Jacob, Madeline and Jonah; 4 siblings Bernice Briscoe of Memphis, Tenn., Raymond (Sharon) Nelson of Viroqua, Jeanne Ebli of Coon Valley and Leo Nelson of Hixton and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Douglas Stacy and a sister Arlene "Kay" Nelson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Monday May 6, 2013 at the Vang Lutheran Church, rural Westby. Rev. Dennis Hallemeier will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 11 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to the Vang Lutheran Church.
