Virgil E. Hoff

Virgil E. Hoff, 83, of Chaseburg, died Friday March 9, 2012 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. He was born December 4, 1928 in the township of Hamburg, Vernon County to William and Ethel (Hoilien) Hoff. Virgil was baptized January 31, 1929 at his grandfather's home, confirmed May 2, 1943 at the Upper Coon Valley Lutheran Church and graduated May 5, 1946 from Westby High School. Virgil worked for the Coon Valley Telephone Co., Chaseburg Farmer's Union Mill, Quality Lumber in La Crosse and also as a carpenter through the years. Virgil farmed the majority of his life near Chaseburg. He married Myra Midtlien on August 19, 1950 at the Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church where he was a member. In his earlier years he played for the South Ridge Baseball team. Virgil enjoyed spending time with family, reminiscing, being in the woods, going for rides and watching ball games and westerns.

Survivors include his wife Myra; 4 children Bonnie (Alan) Boerner and their family Zac, Linnea (Jeremy) Schellenberg, Cara; Rachel (Roger) Niedfeldt and their family Ryan (Kim), Rick, Robb (Shelly) Niedfeldt and Allan Thompson; Robert (Sue) Hoff and Ryssa; Ronnie (Amanda) Hoff and their family Nick, Danielle, Alyssa, Jonathan and Emily; great grandchildren Mya and Zoey Shellenberg and Max Niedfeldt; a brother Howard Hoff; sisters Doris Williams and Betty Haefer; sister-in-law Arlene Kapanke and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Billy in 1976 at age 23; a brother Luell and brother Walter in infancy; sister Gert Davidson; sisters-in-law Ruth Hoff and Mary Hoff and brothers-in-law Wes Williams and Bill Haefer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday March 13, 2012 at the Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church, rural Chaseburg. Rev. Dan Wollman will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to the Middle Coon Valley Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
